Review GIBSON Hawk Guitar Amplifier 1960s Footswitch

The Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk guitar amplifier is a vintage gem from the 1960s, boasting an authentic and unique design that is highly sought after by guitar enthusiasts and collectors. This amplifier is not just a piece of musical history, but also a versatile and high-performing instrument that delivers rich and warm tones.

Measuring 18 inches in width, 9 inches in depth, and 10 inches in height, the GA-25RVT Hawk is a compact yet powerful amplifier. It features two 6V6 power tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes, which provide a total output power of 25 watts. This makes it an ideal choice for small to medium-sized venues or practice sessions at home.

One of the most distinctive features of the GA-25RVT Hawk is its eye-catching design. The amplifier's cabinet is covered in a beautiful brown tolex material with a gold foil Hawk emblem on the front grille. The control panel includes basic features such as volume, treble, middle, and bass knobs, as well as a switch for selecting between normal and vibrato channels. The amplifier also comes with a footswitch (not included in this product description) that allows for easy switching between these channels during performance.

The GA-25RVT Hawk delivers a wide range of tones, from crisp and bright to warm and mellow. The normal channel provides a clean and clear sound, making it perfect for playing chords and rhythm parts. The vibrato channel, on the other hand, adds a touch of warmth and distortion, making it ideal for lead solos and overdrive sounds.

This amplifier is not just a tool for producing music, but also a work of art. Its vintage design and authentic sound make it a cherished possession for any guitar player. Whether you're a seasoned musician or just starting out, the Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk is sure to provide you with hours of musical enjoyment. So, if you're in the market for a unique and high-performing guitar amplifier, look no further than the Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk.

The Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk guitar amplifier, originally produced in the 1960s, is a vintage piece that has gained popularity among guitarists for its unique tone and retro aesthetic. However, before deciding to buy this amplifier, it's essential to consider its pros and cons.

Pros:

1. Authentic Tone: The Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk amplifier is known for its distinctive tone that many guitarists find desirable. Its 25-watt tube design delivers a warm, rich sound with impressive clarity and depth.

2. Vintage Aesthetic: The amplifier's vintage design is a significant selling point for many players. Its retro appearance adds an element of nostalgia and character to any guitar rig.

3. Versatility: Despite its vintage nature, the GA-25RVT can handle a wide range of guitar tones. It works particularly well with single-coil guitars, delivering a bright and twangy sound, but it can also handle humbucker-equipped guitars with ease.

4. Footswitch Compatibility: The amp comes with a footswitch, allowing users to switch between channels or engage the reverb effect without having to reach for the amplifier's controls.

Cons:

1. Limited Features: Compared to modern amplifiers, the Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk is quite basic. It only comes with two channels and a single reverb effect, which might not be enough for some players.

2. Maintenance: Vintage amplifiers like the GA-25RVT require regular maintenance to keep them in good working order. Tube replacements and other repairs can be costly and time-consuming.

3. Power Handling: With a power output of only 25 watts, the GA-25RVT might not be the best choice for gigging or larger venues. It's more suitable for home practice or recording.

4. Price: The GA-25RVT is a sought-after vintage amplifier, and its rarity and desirability can drive up its price significantly.

In conclusion, the Gibson GA-25RVT Hawk amplifier offers a unique tone and vintage aesthetic that many guitarists find appealing. However, its limited features, maintenance requirements, power handling, and high price make it a consideration for those who value authentic tone and retro design above all else.

If you're looking for an amplifier with more features and a larger power output, you might consider a modern amplifier instead. However, if you're a collector or a player who values the sound and look of vintage gear, the GA-25RVT Hawk could be an excellent addition to your collection. Ultimately, the decision to buy this amplifier depends on your individual needs, preferences, and budget.

Please reach out for a quote if you're interested. Known for their mellow tone, but it can rip too. There are a few photos at the end with speaker cap off for those who interested. Original brown Rolex, with the covering for handle long-gone handle skeleton is still there and perfectly strong.

Dreamy reverb. They managed to get the exact Rolex for it, so again, maybe an early factory development job. Speaker is a mystery but sounds amazing. OVERBUILT cabinet, putting even Fender to shame.

If you're gigging with this we'd strongly advise a tech go through it. This early/mid sixties Gibson Combo weighs 40lbs and measures 26 inches wide x 11 deep 20 high. For your consideration is a rare, originally VERY pricey, Gibson GA-25RVT Amplifier. One of the Gibson Crest line Amplifiers which started in 1962 and finished around 1967 or 1965 depending on who you ask about very little is known.

I've been enjoying it for some time with no issues. If you're collecting this and occasionally playing, we'd advise to keep it as-is original as long possible. Some dings and staining on the Rolex but not bad for 60 years. It has a painted number on the rim but age done it poorly.

Great value here, these were very pricey amps for Gibson to make yet haven't gone crazy prices like the same-era Fenders have. Definitely likes pedals.
